After completing his studies in mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich and an internship in Ireland, Roman joined the Process Engineering department at Sensirion six years ago. "As a process engineer you are an interface between the actual sensor development and industrial production," he explains. "We have contact with specialists from various fields and usually supervise several projects simultaneously. The tasks are very interdisciplinary, combining cognitive activities with practical application, which makes my work very exciting and varied." Roman appreciates the fact that he was allowed to take on a lot of responsibility very early on at Sensirion. This enabled him to optimize the calibration process for a gas flow sensor in the automotive industry on his first project. Later, he helped develop the calibration process for one of the world's smallest humidity sensors, the SHTC1.
In 2014 Roman became a team leader and was responsible for a large area of process engineering.
In order to strengthen our global market leadership, we in Process Engineering constantly develop new, and optimize existing, manufacturing processes.
A good team leader needs good leadership and organization skills, to be assertive and have technical know-how, as well as be realistic and have good long-term planning skills.
Roman recently took another step forward at Sensirion and assumed a new role as project manager. He is now responsible for the industrialization of sensor products, and the planning and coordination of the development of all process steps required to produce sensors in the millions of units. The goal is to fully automate mass production, enabling it to be as efficient and cost-effective as possible. Roman monitors a product from start to finish, and works very closely with product development and the process developers of the individual process steps. “Design for manufacturing is of great importance to me, which is why we closely monitor product development at an early stage.”
In addition to a shared drive to move forward, Roman appreciate that at Sensirion everyone is able to bring his or her own ideas to the table and has the opportunity to work independently.
“My work is varied and I am never bored or just going through the motions.”
For Roman the work atmosphere is very pleasant so co-workers are happy doing things together and even socialize after work.
