Team Leader R&D Software
Music: Drum & Bass
Actor: Bud Spencer
In 2012, Thomas started working as a software engineer at Sensirion. In his first few months on the job he mainly programmed software in the production environment, the so-called CIP (continuous improvement process). His duties included improving existing software and developing new software for existing production processes.
Thomas then became a team leader and thus responsible, together with a colleague from production, for internal CIP planning. "As a team leader I am primarily responsible for the administrative and technical leadership of our software team," he explains. "This means that I am responsible for programming only on a conceptual level and I take a managerial, coordinating role in CIP. Thomas applied for the position of team leader internally. "To become a team leader was not originally my goal. But as my focus shifted from programming to a position of greater functional importance, I discovered that I also liked that kind of work and enjoyed taking on more responsibility."
In addition to his planning role in CIP, Thomas is responsible, together with the Business Intelligence group, for connecting equipment to the MES (manufacturing execution system). The MES is a program for coordinating all the steps in production. "The software department must also document the steps in MES," explains Thomas. "My team and I designed an interface for this precise communication with the system, which is currently being implemented in line with our requirements."
In his job, Thomas particularly likes the mix of team leadership and conceptual work. "Software and software solutions play an increasingly important role at Sensirion. For this reason, we are constantly looking for new software talent," he says.
What this computer science graduate also appreciates about his work at Sensirion is the good social environment as well as the company's clearly communicated goals.
We don't work blindly through each day, but know exactly what the bigger picture is. At Sensirion everyone knows what they are doing.
