Fabian has worked as a design engineer at Sensirion since 2012. Following an apprenticeship in polymechanics, Fabian studied mechanical engineering at HSR (Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences) and joined Sensirion’s automation department immediately after finishing his studies.
In order to reliably manufacture large quantities of sensors, highly complex production equipment must be developed in advance. Fabian and his colleagues collaborate with process engineers to determine the requirements for new equipment, paying particular attention to the technical implementation of the individual specifications.
What I particularly like about Sensirion is the dynamism and variety.
Once all preparations have been completed and the equipment developed, all the components must be procured. This stage is followed by installation and commissioning. Throughout this entire process, Fabian works closely with process engineers and the software and hardware departments.
Fabian particularly likes the technical variety of his work. No two tasks are the same and there are always new challenges. Process engineers often approach Fabian with very specific ideas about what a piece of equipment should look like. The objective then is to find the best possible solution.
Generally, Fabian likes the dynamism at Sensirion. There is no single prescribed approach to solving a given problem, meaning that individual ideas and personal initiative play a crucial role. While this can be challenging, it also makes things fun. For Fabian, the position was the perfect start to his career after his studies: not only did it allow him to participate fully in the life of the company from the very beginning, he also had the chance to learn from more experienced colleagues.
In addition to his work as a design engineer, Fabian is responsible for looking after apprentices in his department. As a vocational trainer, his activities are particularly focused on supervising and assisting apprentices with their work. This gives him the opportunity to pass on his knowledge and his own experiences, providing apprentices with an excellent foundation for the rest of their careers.
