Moving matters – giving something back!
Sensirion, environmental and flow sensor expert, is showing solidarity and giving something back. A charitable campaign is under way to help people who are severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Sensirion will donate CHF 35’000 to Swiss Solidarity for this purpose.
The Swiss economy is facing an unprecedented challenge. Due to the current coronavirus crisis, people in Switzerland are still suffering from the social, economic and health consequences of the pandemic. Despite major challenges, however, the crisis has seen Sensirion benefit from a sharp increase in global demand for gas flow sensors for respiratory equipment (see press release dated August 19, 2020).
The Stäfa company’s key driver of success is its employees. At Sensirion, the corporate values of “fairness and honesty”, “teamwork” and “top performance” are put into practice and have now also inspired the charitable action: instead of the annual two-day company outing, the company decided to organize a one-day collective run under the motto “Moving matters”. Last Friday, all Sensirion employees covered as many kilometers as possible in one day – on foot, by bike, on inline skates or on the water with a stand-up paddleboard, in compliance with COVID-19 hygiene regulations. A sum of money was deposited for each kilometer completed so that in the end, a total of 8166 kilometers was covered and a generous amount of CHF 35’000 could be handed over to Swiss Solidarity. In addition to Sensirion’s donation, many employees have also agreed to make private donations. With this athletic community initiative, Sensirion’s aim wasn’t solely to collect money for the people affected, but also to send a message in favor of solidarity and sticking together as a society and economy during this difficult coronavirus crisis.
“As a Swiss company and a leading global manufacturer of sensor solutions, we see it as our duty and responsibility to make our economic contribution in these difficult times. In addition to manufacturing sensors for the healthcare industry, we also see ourselves as having a social responsibility,” says Marc von Waldkirch, CEO at Sensirion. “We can see how many people in Switzerland are currently in dire need, which is why we are using this donation to give back to them.”
We still don’t know what economic and social impacts the pandemic will have – but they will affect our lives well beyond the coming months. Only a few weeks ago, nobody in Switzerland could have imagined that a virus could have such an impact on public life. For Sensirion, it was immediately clear that it would do everything in its power to produce the life-saving sensors for ventilators, that it would work to counteract the negative effects and that it would take the first step towards a better future, both technologically and socially, together with all its employees across the globe.
