Development division in Taiwan
Sensirion is opening an R&D division in Hsinchu Technology Park (Taiwan). This move intensifies our cooperation with local suppliers and enables us to profit from local expertise in the semiconductor industry. Establishment of the Taiwan research facility will be accompanied by a growth in staff.
"The geographic proximity of MEMS developers and suppliers shortens the development time for our sensors and accelerates the innovation process", according to co-CEO Felix Mayer. Microelectronic mechanical systems (MEMS) form the basis for our sensors for humidity and temperature as well a gas and liquid flow measurement, which are supplied in large quantities to companies in the consumer electronics, automotive, medical technology and building services sectors. Mr. Mayer added: "The Hsinchu Technology Park in Taiwan is renowned for its high concentration of semiconductor manufacturers and great expertise in this area. A local R&D lab is therefore beneficial for our customers everywhere in the world."
The opening of the R&D division in Taiwan has no effect on the staffing level of approximately 350 in Switzerland. The headquarters and the production facility in Staefa (near Zurich) will also be expanded rapidly to accommodate the company's growth and increasing global demand for humidity, temperature and flow sensors.
