Field Report – Software Development @Sensirion
In the Sensirion software group we develop customized systems that support our R&D teams in their development tasks, autonomously carry out steps of production and assure the quality of our products and processes. Furthermore, we provide the management with our own business intelligence solutions. Therefore we are considerably involved in all production stages, from the development to the delivery of our sensors.
As a member of the software development team I enjoy working in a product-specific and interdisciplinary way, adding to the high performance of our sensor solutions. From my early days with Sensirion I was faced with the challenge of assuming responsibility, joined with the chance of setting the course myself. A professional, state-of-the-art software environment as well as a dynamic, young team with competent and helpful co-workers create a pleasant working environment and motivate me to do my best day after day.
My work at Sensirion is characterized by demanding projects during which I am able to apply my programming knowledge and experiences and to learn from the exchange with internal and external departments. My last project lasted about one year. In detail it was about developing a software system for individually testing millions of humidity sensors on a machine a year. At the same time this innovative machine had to optically control the sensors for damages, check its dimensions and carry out the packaging process. Before we were able to start with the actual system development, we had to compile the detailed machine requirements together with our automation team. The subsequent development of the communication protocol and the implementation phase were carried out in close cooperation with the selected machine supplier. Later we integrated all of the components (software, test system, machine and further infrastructure services) at our premises. Currently, we are implementing the experiences made during prototype manufacture and the first serial production into the software and the test system.
During the complete development process of the machine I was constantly involved and able to add my own ideas to the discussion - even in areas that are not directly connected to the actual software. The machine is now operating and it is a great feeling to have been part of such an extensive and important project.
