New Differential Pressure Sensor for Medical Applications
Sensirion presents the new SDP1108 differential pressure sensor for medical applications. Offering reduced response time and improved precision, the new SDP1108 extends the range of applications of the current Sensirion SDP product family. Based on the highly accurate, low-cost SDP1000, the SDP1108 has been optimized in terms of dynamic behavior and response time. Its main target market is medical instrumentation.

Like the SDP1000, the SDP1108 offers superior long-term stability, reliability and easy handling thanks to CMOSens® technology. The new SDP1108 provides a response time of less than 8ms with a low-noise 12-bit equivalent analog signal output – even in the pressure range below 1Pa (0.01 cmH20).

Thanks to internal filtering, integration and conditioning of the sensor signal, the SDP1108 is ideally suited for bidirectional air flow measurement in ventilation applications, where fast measurement and control are required. The sensor output signal typically does not require additional filtering and linearization. It can be used directly in analog control circuits or processed directly in digital form after A/D conversion.

Closing the ml Gap with the new Liquid Flow Sensor

new liquid flow sensor for higher flow rates

Reliable, economic measurement solutions for liquid flows in the low milliliter range have been difficult to find in the past. Mechanical solutions such as miniaturized turbines have not lived up to their expectations in many applications, thus leaving a gap.

Sensirion has now closed this flow range gap between reliable low-volume liquid flow meters and modern microsensor solutions for microliters and nanoliters. The new, non-invasive LG216-480 liquid flow sensor with no moving parts covers a flow range of 1 ml/min to 20 ml/min. The product expands the company’s existing line of specialized ultra-low flow sensors which cover flow rates as low as some nl/min.

The OEM component is intended to be integrated into applications with large manufacturing volumes in the medical devices and process technology areas. The microchip-based sensor enables media detection and accurate measurement of low liquid flow rates with a response time of 50 ms at pressures up to 20 bar. The media is totally isolated by the wall of a glass capillary. A digital sensor chip is mounted on the outside of this flow channel and senses through the wall. The capillary has an inner diameter of approximately 0.5 mm and can be connected to 1/8” and 1/16” OD plastic tubing using standard screw fittings.
OEM samples will be available end of April and robust industrial devices will follow.

Low-cost Digital Mass Flow Controller for Analytical Applications
Sensirion presents its new, fully digital SFC3200 mass flow controller for gas flow rates up to 2000 sccm.

Sensirion presented the SFC3200 mass flow controller for OEM applications at Pittcon 2007 in Chicago. This new member of the compact, low-cost SFC3000 family can be used to measure and control relatively high flow rates up to 2000 sccm.

The sensor element determines the accuracy and precision of a mass flow controller. The CMOSens® sensor technology used in this family provides extremely accurate, repeatable measurements and thus enables fast, exact control of gas flows at very competitive prices.

The device features a digital control core, which allows several different gases and control ranges to be calibrated and stored for easy selection under software control. The SFC3200 has a bus-capable RS485 interface. Thus multiple devices can be controlled and powered using one single cable. The standardized digital hardware (RS485 and RS232) enables rapid integration into analytical instruments.

The SFC3000 family is primarily aimed at customers that wish to use several mass flow controllers in their instruments in constrained spaces. However, the SFC3200 is also an attractive solution for users that want to use only one type of mass flow controller in several different configurations, for logistical or other reasons.
